NYC Rechargeable Batteries Recycling Guidelines.
Effective December 2006, New York City's Rechargeable Battery Law (Local
Law 97 of 2005) makes it illegal for New York City residents to
discard rechargeable batteries in the trash (or residential
recycling containers).
All NYC stores that sell rechargeable batteries or products that
contain rechargeable batteries (with the exception of small food
stores) must accept up to ten batteries of the same shape and size
as they sell.

Small Business Marketing Campaign Opportunity: Next

Stop: NYC
It's here!
This
September, New York City’s Department of Small Business
Services (SBS), a City agency serving the small business community and
supporting New York City’s neighborhood commercial areas, launched a
city-wide marketing campaign to encourage New Yorkers to
experience 15 unique neighborhoods located along the “F” line and
the incredible shopping, dining and cultural adventures each
neighborhood presents.
The Next Stop:
NYC campaign consists of a
comprehensive neighborhood website and guidebook detailing
the neighborhoods. Publicized through advertisements in New
York City’s subway system, on bus shelters and in Time Out New York
magazine. The six-month campaign ends on
February 28, 2007.
Our neighborhood
has been selected as one of the 15 to be featured. Hundreds of thousands
of New Yorkers will be encouraged to eat, shop and visit our community,
translating to potentially valuable sales and relationships for you.

ShopAble
The LESBID office is
providing a grant through the ShopAble NYC program
of the Department of Small Business Services to help
businesses become more compliant with the Americans
for Disability Act.
The grant will enable a limited
number of businesses (based on the number and order
of responses the LESBID receives) to make
design and construction modifications or
procurements that create a more user-friendly
environment for the visually-impaired. A business would be reimbursed 100% of costs
within the budget of the grant.
The LESBID has
signed a contract with Visions, an organization that
aids the visually-impaired, to advise merchants on
the types of changes they can make to their business.
Visions would also help the LESBID with design and
construction issues for its office.
Participating
merchants who receive a grant for their
establishment would also be required to have staff
participate in a sensitivity-training session. These
establishments, including the BID office, would
become models for user-friendly locations for the
visually-impaired.
Visions would then encourage its network of members
in the visually-impaired community to patronize
these establishments by notifying them of the
adaptations that were made through the programs.
